July 6th – August 6th – Ruth Laskey, Ara Peterson, and Noam Rappaport at Ratio 3:  For this exhibition, Ruth Laskey will present new weavings from her Twill Series. Her investigations into the definitive nature of the blank canvas have evolved into increasingly complex relationships between form, color, and space. She employs dye, thread, and a loom to weave intricate geometric forms that fade in and out of focus and suggest subtle movement. Alongside Laskey’s new work will be Noam Rappaport paintings and drawings by Ara Peterson. The opening reception is Wednesday, July 6th from 6-8pm. Ratio 3 is located at 2831 A Mission Street in San Francisco.

July 8th – August 6th – Elizabeth Bowler: Terraform the 2015-16 Tournesol Award Exhibition at the Luggage Store: The Tournesol Award, given by the Headlands Center for the Arts, recognizes one local painter each year, supporting them in taking the first major steps toward establishing a career in the Bay Area. The award gives artists financial and professional support to assist their artistic development in the critical first years after receiving an MFA. 2015-16 Tournesol Awardee Elizabeth Bowler‘s self-illuminated, sculptural paintings depict transient topographies of light and livingness. Bowler utilizes materials from the farthest reaches of painting’s history—including hand-mixed oil paints and rabbit skin glue—to construct works that evoke inquiries into a host of contemporary concerns of the medium, both formal and phenomenological. There will be an artist talk on Wednesday, July 20th at 6pm. The Luggage Store is located at 1007 Market Street in San Francisco.

Saturday July 16th, 4-6pm – Opening reception for Leo Bersamina and David Huffman at Anglim Gilbert Gallery:  Two Bay Area artists present new work in this exhibit at the Minnesota Street Project location of Anglim Gilbert Gallery. Leo Bersamina’s practice ignores lines between disciplines: paintings and sculptures often employ photographs, while photography has been woven and sculptural, and in many instances painted. David Huffman’s paintings are formal abstractions about the human experience. He uses readymade symbols to create repetitive patterns with mixed media. The exhibit runs July 9th – August 20th at their Minnesota Street Project location.
