Christian Maychack “Pink Dropout” 2017, epoxy clay, pigment, and wood. Image courtesy of Gregory Lind Gallery.

June 1st to July 15th – Christian Maychack: Reciprocals at Gregory Lind Gallery: In this exhibition of new work, Maychack points to the many oppositional relationships existing within his work—inverse subjects comprising a totality in and of itself. Maychack’s technique is self-referential, as color composition echoes structure, and vice versa. He employs a rhythmic language that oscillates from sculptural object to image, and back again. The works themselves are colorful permutations of two-dimensional and three-dimensional forms that appear as viscerally self-animating matter, defy gravity and betray balance and symmetry. Gregory Lind Gallery is located at 49 Geary Street, 5th floor.

Ranu Mukherjee “Shadowtime” 2017, installation view. Image courtesy of Gallery Wendi Norris.

Thursday, June 8th, 6:30 – 7:30pm – In Conversation: Ranu Mukherjee and Saisha Grayson: In conjunction with Ranu Mukherjee’s exhibition Shadowtime, Gallery Wendi Norris presents a conversation between Mukherjee and Saisha Grayson, Ph.D. candidate, The Graduate Center-CUNY, and former Assistant Curator at the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art at the Brooklyn Museum. Mukherjee is a San Francisco-based multi-media artist. Her exhibition features a series of new yellow, orange, and purple milk paintings on paper and a hybrid film installation, projected on a 107″ x 60″ sculptural glass screen. Gallery Wendi Norris is located at 161 Jessie Street.

Sanaz Mazinani, “Untitled #11”, 2017. Image courtesy of Mills College Art Museum.

June 28th to August 27th – A+P+I Exhibition at Mills College Art Museum: The Mills College Art Museum is pleased to announce the 2017 Art + Process + Ideas (A+P+I) exhibition.  A+P+I is an artist-in-residence program hosted by the Mills College Art Department and MCAM. The residency fosters interdisciplinary collaboration and provides opportunities for the students, faculty, and staff of Mills College as well as the larger Bay Area. The residency culminates in a summer exhibition at the Mills College Art Museum, which features new work created by the artists while in residence. Artists in this round are – Sofia Cordova, Sanaz Mazinani and Genevieve Quick. Mills College Art Museum is located at 5000 MacArthur Blvd. in Oakland.

Sophie Calle, video still.  Image courtesy of Fort Mason Center for the Arts.

June 29th to August 20th – Sophie Calle: Missing at Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture:  Conceived as a journey, Missing gathers five of Sophie Calle’s major projects – itinerant since their creation – into a site-responsive presentation across the historic and scenic FMCAC campus on the San Francisco waterfront. The corpus offers an overview of Calle’s art since the 1980s, and includes her iconic projects spanning the last decade: Take Care of Yourself, Rachel Monique and Voir la mer. Unveiling through a narrative of intimate stories, both personal and collective, Missing emphasizes the analogy of mother and sea (“mère” and “mer” in French), while proposing a reflection on the universal concepts of disappearance, loss and absence, central in the artist’s work and exploration.
