Saturday, October 18 to January 3 — Jim Melchert: Where the Boundaries Are presented by di Rosa SF: A pioneer of conceptual ceramics in Northern California, this is the first major retrospective of Jim Melchert’s work. His ceramic work is described as a transcendent exploration of mending, a unique procedural work that emphasizes gestural lines or physical fractures. Melchert’s tiles produce a sense of balance between change and control, organic and synthetic, the handmade and the manufactured, all creating patterns and rhythms. The opening reception will be held on Saturday, October 18 at 5 p.m. The show will be hosted at their new location, di Rosa SF which is located at 1150 25th Street, San Francisco.

Friday, October 10 to August 16 — Unbound: Art, Blackness & the Universe presented by MoAD: Celebrating the fluidity of the Black identity through the idea of the cosmos, this exhibition’s core themes are Geo-Cartographic, Religio-Mythic, and Techno-Cyborgian. Artists including Lorna Simpson, Rashaad Newsom, Gustavo Nazareno, Harmonia Rosales, and Didier William. These artists reimagine Blackness as a site of mystery and power, with the ability to be cosmically rich and infinite. This exhibition invites viewers to go to the edge of known identity and look out, into the abyss of unbound possibility. MoAD is located at 685 Mission Street, San Francisco.

This fundraising event encourages community members to watch the creative process of local artists, and buy art instantaneously, for $100 ach. Ongoing to December 13 — To Bright Disturbances presented by SFAC: Artists Carmen Argote, Sky Hopinka, Kija Lucas, Aspen Mays, and Bonnie Ora Sherk all contemplate and explore how we live with land and nature, and how we extract from the restorative. Saturday, October 11 from 2-4 p.m—In Conversation: Kija Lucas and Manu Subramaniam: Moderated by Marthine Satris, Kija Lucas and Manu Subramaniam come together to discuss ways in which science has been shaped by European colonialism and how they subvert this system through their work. This event will take place at SFAC.
Saturday, November 15 from 2-4 p.m.—Performance with Carmen Argote: In this performance Argote explores the idea of the “perimeter” which has been a point of reference throughout her work. Through performance, photography, and drawing, Argote pushes along the edges of her discomfort and the boundaries of binary systems of thinking and perception. This event will take place at SFAC.

Ongoing to November 1—nu.dos by Ektor Garcia presented by Rebecca Camacho Presents: With previously unexplored materials, Garcia re-imagines old works and creates new ones as well which result in a layered investigation of time and place, the dynamics of art, and the nature of constant reflection of meaning and emotion. The human body and domestic items play significant roles in this exhibition, these works push Garcia’s own boundaries while maintaining the spirit of his initial efforts.
